San Blas is the largest town on Matachen Bay, a day's drive north of Puerto Vallarta. With few gringos to drive up prices, many Mexicans take their Christmas and Holy Week vacations there. The shallow Matachen Bay is reputed to have the world's longest surfing waves.

San Blas area was hit worst by the class-5 Hurricane Kenna on 10/25/02 . 3/4 of roofs were torn off. But the government had the tourist facilities rebuilt in time for Christmas vacation. Read the news.
