Margarita’s Guest House in Creel is right on the plaza 1 block from the bus and train stations in Creel. Private rooms are $35 for 2; dormitory is about $8. Both include family-style breakfast and dinner! I can meet you here. This place is fun and funky. If you want something more like an American hotel, try Margarita’s Plaza Mexicana, three blocks South and a half block East of the original Margarita’s. We spend a night here on arrival and another before departing Creel. Otherwise these are camping trips. Bring your own sleeping and cooking gear.
December-February there’s occasional snow up on the plateau areas (where Creel is) but the bottom, some 4,800′ below, is warm enough for oranges and bananas! So you need winter clothes to travel in that we leave at Margaritas, taking lighter clothes down in the canyon. Don’t forget raingear just in case! You can check the weather in Urique, the bottomland town some 25 miles downstream. It’s generally 10 degrees warmer in Urique than at the hot springs, where the canyon is narrower and shadier.
